Nam Chau

Nam Chau (b. 1988, Germany) is a painter who deals with the concepts of memory and heritage in her work. For the series “My Mother’s Camp”, she used the internet to extract imagery from the time and place her mother wouldn’t discuss, namely the period of time in Vietnam during which she fled. Through her blurred paintings, Chau makes an imaginary return to the refugee camp to which she has never made a pilgrimage.
